Float

Every day he comes inside
Takes off his shirt and hits the dive
Tucks his head, does his best suicide.
And they laugh.

Takes a breath, and starts a dead man's float
Names start flying and that's all she wrote
They mention something 'bout a boat.
And they laugh.

I've never seen someone make such a splash.
I've never seen someone sink so fast
Or float so easy without a raft
And they laugh.

So I will sit up in the chair
And guard your life
But I'm afraid I won't be there
To change their minds.
And nothing touched my heart as much
To see you smile
When they laughed.

He's standing in the middle of the deep
Almost like he's searching for a place to be
He pushes through the water like he's trying to part the sea.
And they laugh.

They only come to him to fool around
See who can lift him up, without falling down
He just seems glad, to have someone around.
And they laugh.

And I've never seen somebody work so hard
Never seen somebody struggle, just to get so far
I've never known determination, Never known such heart.
And they laugh.

(Chorus)

Close your eyes
You will see
Look inside
Set them free.

Close your eyes
You will see
Now the differences are torn apart
Torn away, cast out, set free.

And kids can be so cruel, or so they say
But someone had to teach it is wrong to look that way
Is that the message we secretly convey.
When we laugh.

(Chorus)
